The PlayStation 3, was first released in Japan 2006. The console was originally planned for a global release through November. Because of some issues release was delayed Sony announced that the PlayStation 3 would go on sale on March 23, 2007.

There are 5 PlayStation 3 models, commonly referred to by the size of their hard disk drive: models were 40 - 60 - 80 or 160 GB

 The Playstation 3 slim console, the only difference in the appearance of the first five models was the colour of the trim, number of USB ports, the presence or absence of a door (which covers the flash card readers on equipped models)
